Capitol police officer has died after clashing with pro-Trump mob

A U.S. Capitol police officer has died a day after clashing with a pro-Trump mob on the Capitol.

United States Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick was injured whereas partaking with protesters Wednesday and returned to his division workplace, the place he collapsed, Capitol Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki stated. He was taken to a neighborhood hospital the place he died about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Sicknick, who joined the Capitol Police division in 2008, is the fifth person to die from Wednesday’s violent conflict in Washington.

Capitol Police fatally shot an Air Force veteran and ardent Trump supporter who was a part of the mob that made it into the constructing. Three other people died in “medical emergencies” following the riot, officers stated.

Information of the officer’s demise comes shortly after the resignation of U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund amid criticism of the division’s response to rioters who broke via barricades, vandalized the constructing and clashed with police.
